Heathmont Player profiles
Heathmont has seen a large number of players over the years participate in competitions and teams outside the standard Melbourne Winter League Baseball tournament. Check out some of the players achievements below.
Mitch Edwards
Mitch started playing T-ball at the age of 5. He rotated through summer baseball clubs, however only ever played winter baseball for Heathmont. It was while playing for Heathmont in 2019 that he signed a professional contract with the Philadelphia Phillies. In 2019 he was awarded best international player during the Phillies instructional league and followed that up with an incredible tournament for the Australian Under 19 team. Mitch has had an incredible career playing for Australia, Sydney Blue Sox, Adelaide Giants, Canberra Cavalry and Melbourne Aces.
“If you want to play baseball it’s Heathmont you want to be at. I’ve played for a few local clubs in Victoria, ACT and NSW but it’s Heathmont I consider my true club. It’s where I feel most at home, it’s where I’ve had the most fun and where I’ve learned so much from so many great baseball people”
Mitch Ayres
Mitch started his baseball career young as a Victorian Junior representative. As the years went on, he continued on his succession becoming a member of the VIS – representing Australia in the U17 team and playing for the Melbourne Aces. This soon led to his international career. Mitch travelled to play baseball, representing Draci Brno in the Czech professional league and for the LA Dodgers before ending up at Heathmont Baseball Club
Lexi Hunkin
Lexi, a great-grandchild of one of Heathmont’s founders, proudly carries on her family’s baseball legacy. Having competed in the 2023 Barclay Cup, she now gears up for the 2024 Australian Youth Women’s Championship in April. Fueled by her family’s rich history and past tournament experience, Lexi stands ready to make her mark on the national stage, embodying both tradition, representing women and a deep love for the game.
“Heathmont is where I grew up learning baseball and improving my skills in a community that feels like a family.”
